Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is with much pleasure and honour that I embark on the journey as the new President of the Endocrine Metabolic Society of Singapore (EMSS) from 2016 onwards to 2018.

The EMSS started its journey on 13th Dec 1971 as a small society with a few members and over the years it has since grown in both size and strength. Amongst other activities, we have successfully hosted a multitude of conferences including the AFES/AOTA meeting in 2003 and the EMSS-Mayo course every 2 years since 2005 with the latest being held in 2016.

We look forward to further strengthening the ties with various similar societies. We hope to be able to organise and host more meetings in the future and this will serve as additional platforms where like minded endocrinologists to meet.

At the heart of the society since its inception are the following precepts:

• To advance the field of endocrinology in Singapore and the region, including its various subspecialties.
• Increase awareness of endocrinology and its various disorders.
• To encourage collaboration and camaraderie amongst its members in Singapore and to provide a platform where colleagues may get together, during organised meetings and other events.
• To foster ties of friendship and collaboration with international endocrine colleagues, especially in Asia and Southeast Asia. Hopefully this will allow us to bring the science and art of endocrinology to greater heights in these regions.

To this end, we look forward to further strengthening the ties with various similar societies. We hope to be able to organise and host more meetings in the future and this will serve as additional platforms where like minded endocrinologists to meet.

In the meantime, we hope to consolidate our national strengths in endocrinology. We have elected a strong team and hope to better serve you in the next two years to come.
